Video import
We are actively working to improve this documentation. The content you see here may be incomplete, subject to change, or may not fully reflect the current state of the feature. We appreciate your understanding as we continue to enhance our docs.
The JW Player plugin adds federated video search to Brightspot, allowing you to search and browse JW Player videos directly from the CMS content picker. Videos are queried on-demand from the JW Player API — they don't need to be imported first.
Importing videos
To search for and use a JW Player video:
-
Open the search panel.
-
Set the content types filter to JW Player Video.
NoteThe external type Video (JW Player) is not the same as JW Player Video. If JW Player Video is not available as an external type, the integration with JW Player is not configured. See Configuration.
-
Add other filters or search text. For additional information, see the Brightspot documentation on search filters. Brightspot lists any matching videos.
-
Click on the video.
-
In the content edit form, click Import.
Brightspot imports the video's metadata and displays it in a content edit form. You can modify the title, description, or other metadata, and then use the video in an asset.
For additional information about importing external assets, see the Brightspot documentation on importing external videos.
Account
If multiple JW Player accounts are configured for your site, a dropdown lets you select which account to search. When only one account is available, it is selected automatically.
Media ID
Search for specific videos by their JW Player media IDs. Enter one or more comma-separated media IDs to find exact matches.
Video preview
When you open a JW Player video in the CMS, an embedded video player appears if a Player ID or Preview Player ID is configured in your JW Player Settings.
The preview player must be configured for a 16:9 aspect ratio in JW Player. If no Preview Player ID is set, the plugin falls back to the default Player ID.
Using videos in content
JW Player videos appear as external items in Brightspot. How they're used in your content model depends on your project's implementation. A common pattern is to create a local Video content type that references the external JW Player video — see Extending the plugin for details.
