Privileged content

A content access control plugin for Brightspot CMS that enables user-based privilege management and content restrictions. This plugin allows content creators to create drafts with specific access controls, ensuring that only authorized users can view or edit privileged content.
Enabling the Users widget
By default, any user can access a draft of an asset, either by filtering for it in search or by referencing the Recent Activity widget on the dashboard; however, users may at times want to limit access to their drafts. In these cases, the Users widget on an asset's content edit page controls who can access the draft. In order for Brightspot to display this widget, you must enable it at the site level, or enable it at the Global level for all sites.
To enable the Users widget:
- Click > Admin > Sites & Settings.
- In the Sites widget, select the site for which you want to enable this feature.
- Under the CMS tab, expand the User Access cluster.
- Under User Access Widget, select Enabled.
- Click Save.
At times, admins may need to (only with permission from the user) access private drafts in the event of a personnel circumstance, such as when a user forgets to give access to a draft before taking leave. In these situations, Brightspot recommends that the admin impersonate the user whose drafts are private, which serves as a way to override access.
Limiting access to drafts
When drafting assets, you can control who has access to the draft by using the Users widget on the content edit page. For Brightspot to display this widget, you must enable it. For details, see Enabling the Users widget.
To control asset draft access:
- In the header, click .
- Select the content type for which you want to create an asset.
- In the right rail, click .
- In the Users widget, under Access, select one of the following:
- All Users—Default. The draft is available to all users.
- Creator Only—The draft is only available to you.
- Some Users—The draft is only available to the users you select in the Allowed list, assuming these users have access to the site, content type, workflow status, and any other limiting conditions.
- Click Save.
Once saved, Brightspot displays a label and a banner on the draft that correspond with its access configuration. For example, a draft that can only be accessed by its creator will display both a Creator Only label and a banner that reads, This content is currently only available to you. To make this content visible to all users, update User Access.
Once you publish a draft whose access you have limited in this way, it becomes available to all users.
