Searching and importing assets

In addition to searching for items in Brightspot, you can perform an integrated search for items from a configured db-http service. Items you discover through integrated searches are read-only. If you want to modify them, you need to import the items into Brightspot.

To perform an integrated search:

  1. In the search panel, enter a search term, and from the content-type filter, under External Types, select an external content type. Brightspot displays matching items.

  2. Click an item. Brightspot displays the item in the content edit form along with associated metadata.

  3. If you want to modify the item, import it into Brightspot by clicking Import.

note

Integrated search providers must be configured before they work in your instance of Brightspot. For more information on these configurations, see Configuring integrations.

Brightspot imports the item as an asset, mapped back to the external item so selecting it again later reuses the same asset instead of importing a duplicate. If you select an item you already imported, Brightspot shows Re-import instead of Import; clicking it overwrites the existing asset with the item's current metadata from the external service.

note

For an asset imported from Google Drive or Microsoft Drives, a Sync widget on the asset's edit page indicates whether the source file has changed since it was imported. Click Reimport From Source to pull in the latest version—if the asset is published, this creates a draft of the differences instead of overwriting it directly.

Complete your site's workflow to publish the asset.
