Configuring a social network authentication provider

Administrators perform this task.

Leading social networks provide authentication services, such as Facebook's Login or Google's Sign-In. These services verify a username and password for you, and then confirm with your site that the login was successful. Users often prefer authentication through a social network so they do not have to remember a specific username and password for your site.

Procedure. To configure a social network authentication provider:
  1. Ensure you have the credentials for using the social network's authentication service. This typically involves knowing your App ID/Client ID and a secret.

  2. Create a new standard authentication manager, or open an existing one. For details, see Configuring an authentication manager

  3. Under Social Authentication Providers, click |mi-add_circle_outline|. A selection field appears.

  4. Click |mi-search|. The content picker appears.

  5. Under Create, select the authentication provider and click New. A content edit form appears for selecting the service.

  6. In the Service field, click |mi-search|. The content picker appears.

  7. Under Create, click New for the service (such as New Google Service). A content edit form appears.

  8. In the Name field, type a descriptive name for the service.

  9. In the remaining fields, type the credentials you obtained in step 1. The credentials you need depend on the service.

  10. Click Save, and then click Back to Select Service. You return to the content picker.

  11. Click the service you just created. You return to the New Authentication Provider content edit page, and the authentication service you created appears in the Service field.

  12. Click Save, and then click Back to Add to Social Authentication Providers. You return to the content picker that lists the authentication provider you created (see illustration Content picker for social authentication provider).

  13. Click the authentication provider you created, and close the content picker. You return to the content edit form for the standard authentication manager (see illustration Content edit form for standard authentication manager).

  14. Click Save.
