Above, aside, and below blocks

Modules are lists, promos, advertisements, or announcements that appear along with an item.

Within a page's layout, modules appear in the following layout blocks:

  • Above—This layout block is above the item.

  • Aside—This layout block is to the right or the left to the item.

  • Below—This layout block is below the item.

The following diagram illustrates a typical page structure for a blog site. Within the main section there are six modules: two above the blog post, two below, and two to the side.


Modules are part of page structure, which means that you can define them anywhere in the content hierarchy. Referring to the Content hierarchy diagram, most large-scale publications define page structure at the global, site, and section levels.
