Live Video

The Live Video plugin enables live video events to be streamed to Brightspot. The live video is viewed on a page contained by a Section or a Package.

Brightspot supports the Kaltura online video provider, which requires a Kaltura account. The first step in streaming video to Brightspot is to create a live stream entry from Kaltura Management Console (KMC). For more information, see Kaltura Live Streaming Overview and Getting started with Kaltura Live Streaming.

Configuring Live Video

Administrators perform this task.

If your version of Brightspot is missing any of the following configuration options, contact your Brightspot developer.

  1. From the Navigation menu, select Admin > Sites & Settings.

  2. Under Legacy Settings, click Applications, then click Kaltura.

  3. In Edit Kaltura, set the Name field to identify the video provider.

  4. Under Kaltura Account, set the fields that identify your Kaltura account.

  5. Under Video Synchronization, set the following fields:

Creating a Live Video

Editors perform this task.

  1. From the Search Panel, create a new Live Video item.

  2. Under Main, in Internal Name, set a name by which Brightspot will reference the Live Video item.

  3. Under Provider, select the Kaltura provider that you previously configured.

    • For Entry ID, specify the ID of the live stream entry that you created from the Kaltura Management Console. The entry ID must be unique.
  4. Under Headline, if necessary, enter a headline. Some video selections automatically populate the Headline field. You can override the headline if you want.

  5. (Optional) Under Sub Headline, enter a subheadline.

  6. Under Section, select a section.

  7. Under Package, select a package.

  8. Under Tags, click add_circle_outline, and then select tags.

  9. (Optional) Set a start and end time for the video player to be available on the page. The times you set should agree with the scheduled time of the live event.

If after setting start and end times you want to make the video player immediately available on the page, turn on the Make Live option, which overrides the specified times.

The content edit form includes a Thumbnail Preview, indicating that the Live Video item is the target of a live stream event, similar to the following:

  10. Click Publish.
