Providing headers and footers for syndication

Your organization may offer content for republication through syndication—a good strategy for distributing your content to news-hungry websites. Using a syndication page, you can provide the headers and footers that the republishing site uses to frame your content.

Designing headers and footers for syndicated content

Designing the header and footer for a syndicated page is similar for any other page.

To provide headers and footers for syndication:

  1. From the dashboard, in the Quick Start widget, click Syndicated Page. (If Syndicated Page does not appear in the Quick Start widget, see Creating any type of content.) The New Syndicated Page content edit page appears.

  2. Under Main, in the Name field, type a name for the syndicated page.

  3. Enter values for other fields as required.

  4. Under Overrides, under Header and Footer, design a header and a footer that the republishing site must include before and after your syndicated content.

  5. Click Publish.

Distributing headers and footers for syndicated content

Distributing headers and footers for syndicated content typically involves providing the HTML that the republishing site must include.

To distribute the HTML for syndicated content’s headers and footers:

  1. View the syndicated page in your browser. For example, if your site’s name is www.brightspot.com and the syndicated page’s path is investor-relations, load http://www.brightspot.com/investor-relations in your browser.

  2. To view the HTML for the header, do the following:

    1. Add ?resource=header to the URL (similar to http://www.brightspot.com/investor-relations?resource=header), and reload the page.

    2. View the page source. The HTML is similar to the following:

      <header class="SyndicatedPage-header" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/WPHeader">
          <div class="SyndicatedPage-hat">
              <div class="PageHeaderTextHat">
                  The following article is republished by permission.
              </div>
          </div>
      </header>

  3. To view the HTML for the footer, do the following:

    1. Add ?resource=footer to the URL (similar to http://www.brightspot.com/investor-relations?resource=footer), and reload the page.

    2. View the page source. The HTML is similar to the following:

      <footer class="SyndicatedPage-footer" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/WPFooter">
          <div class="SyndicatedPage-disclaimer">
              Republished with permission from Brightspot Publications. © 2018, Brightspot Publications.
          </div>
      </footer>

  4. Distribute the HTML from steps 2–3 to the republishing sites.
