Drafts and revisions

Drafts are pre-published versions of an item. After its initial publication, an item’s draft phase is complete. All subsequent updates to the item are revisions.

Referring to the previous illustration:

  • There were three drafts before initial publication; Draft 3 is the draft that went live.
  • After initial publication, there were three revisions, each of which went live.

You can restart the draft phase for a published item, changing its status back from live to draft. For more information, see Republishing from a draft.

The state of an item is reflected in the Revisions widget. Actions that transition content from one state to another are available in the Editorial toolbar. For more information, see Content states.
