Resources

If you frequently refer to certain web sites or files for source material, you can bookmark them in the Resources widget. Adding bookmarks to the Resources widget can make your work go faster, primarily because you don’t need to repeatedly find the source material in search engines or your browser’s bookmarks.

When you click on a link in the Resources widget, your browser downloads the file or displays the web page, depending on the type of resource and your browser’s configuration.

Adding the Resources Widget to the Dashboard

The standard Brightspot dashboard does not include the Resources widget. To expose the Resources widget, you need to create a custom dashboard that includes it. For information about creating custom dashboards, see the following topics:

Adding Bookmarks to the Resources Widget

You can add frequently used web sites or files to the Resources widget. The following procedure describes how to add bookmarks to the global Resources widget. The procedure is similar for Resources widgets at the site, role, and user levels.

  1. Create a custom dashboard that includes the Resources widget. For details, see Adding the Resources Widget to the Dashboard.

  2. From the Navigation Menu, select Admin > Sites & Settings.

  3. In the Sites & Settings widget, click Global. The Edit Global widget appears.

  4. To add a file, do the following:

    1. Under Resources, click Add Resource File. A Resource File form appears.

    2. In the Name field, enter the file’s name as it will appear in the Resources widget.

    3. If you want the file to appear in the same browser tab as the dashboard, mark Same Window.

    4. From the File field, select New Upload or New URL, and navigate to the required file.

  5. To add a web site, do the following:

    1. Under Resources, click Add Resource Link. A Resource Link form appears.

    2. In the Name field, enter the web site’s name as it will appear in the Resources widget.

    3. If you want the web page to appear in the same browser tab as the dashboard, mark Same Window.

    4. In the URL field, type or paste the web site’s URL.

  6. Click Save.

The bookmarks you place in the Resources widget follow Brightspot’s dashboard hierarchy: items in the global dashboard’s Resource widget automatically appear in dashboards configured at the site, role, and user levels—unless you override them.
